Astronauts, Corvettes, and Music.

I am a couple of days late posting about this, but as the whole planet knows, the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon happened on July 20, 2019. I don’t know if it is a good thing or not, but I was alive when it happened. I don’t remember it, mind you, as I was only about a year old. I was the kid whose first dream job was being an astronaut. As I grew up and learned how intelligent, brave, tough, and “in shape” one has to be, it didn’t take me too long to realize I would need a new dream job. I mean, dang, I failed at all 4 requirements! Anyhow, instead of resurrecting the past 3 days here, I am just gonna use my Twitter timeline (aka — a little bird told me) to tell the story. I hope y’all enjoy this – as I try to show ya how those 3 header topics intertwine.

If you read my last post on Western Civilization, the Apollo program is a beautiful example of strength through diversity and unity. It is the crowning achievement of what human beings can do when we work together. The irony of ironies: every Apollo astronaut will tell you that they went to the moon, but they FOUND the earth – the small blue marble that is strikingly beautiful, yet incredibly fragile. Maybe our world leaders should take a trip to the moon – maybe then they would understand how unimportant we really are as independent nations. ““Everything you’ve ever known is behind your thumb,” said Apollo 8 astronaut Jim Lovell decades later. “All the world’s problems, everything. It kind of shows you how relative life is and how insignificant we all are here on Earth. Because we are all on a rather small spaceship here.”
From Apollo 8 also: “To add a touch of poetry to their Christmas Eve broadcast, the astronauts read the first ten verses from the Bible’s book of Genesis, with visual images of the barren moon rushing beneath their words. The reading ended with Borman saying, “God bless all of you, all of you on the Good Earth.”
Amen Mr. Borman, amen.
I wish it could be bottled up.
